Initial Exclusion Period
The initial exclusion period is a defined time from the start date of the policy. If you are made unemployed or made aware of impending unemployment during that time you will be unable to claim against your policy for unemployment.
It is a very important claiming criteria: the shorter the exclusion period the safer will be your protection.
This policy has a 60 day exclusion period whereas most of our competitors offer a 120 day exclusion period.
After the 60 days has elapsed this exclusion no longer applies. There is no initial exclusion period for incapacity claims.
Note: If you have transferred cover from an alternative insurer that has provided full unemployment cover for this commitment over at least the last 3 months and you can provide proof of this prior cover then, subject to a limit of the same benefit amount, this initial exclusion period will be waived.
