Income Payment Protection: The following are only the main exclusions; please see sections Policy Terms and Conditions for full details of all exclusions.

Unemployment claims

You will not receive Unemployment benefit in the following circumstances

  • Unemployment caused or resulting from your employment ending within the first 90 days of cover i.e. the initial exclusion period
  • You being personally told, or made aware either before the start date or within the initial exclusion period (ie the first 90 days of the policy), either verbally or in writing that your unemployment is pending. This is irrespective of when employment actually ends.
  • Misconduct which contributes or leads to your dismissal.
  • Resignation, voluntary unemployment or voluntary redundancy.
  • Your unemployment occurs while you are working outside the UK for a period intended by you to be more than 90 days. There are exceptions to this so please see Unemployment Exclusions on our Terms and Conditions.

Accident and Sickness Claims

You will not receive Incapacity benefit for any claim, which is caused by, or resulting from

  • a Pre-existing condition - This is a physical or mental condition whether diagnosed or not, which you knew about or in our reasonable opinion should have known about, or for which you received treatment or arranged to see, or saw a doctor about during the 12 months prior to the start date of the policy. ; but you will be entitled to benefit if you have been free of its symptoms, have not consulted a doctor nor received any treatment for or in connection with it, for a two year period prior to your claim.
  • attempted suicide or self-inflicted injuries
  • alcohol or drugs, unless they are prescribed for treatment by a doctor
  • stress, anxiety or depression or any mental or nervous disorder that is not certified by a Consultant. This is a medical specialist, other than your partner or any of your relatives, who is a member of a College (Royal College of Surgeons, the Royal College of Physicians or any other Royal College of medical practitioners).
